Incorporating a Template

One thing that's important to remember about templates is that they do not have to stand alone. In this case, the template I used was scaled as an 8.5 x 11. I only have one album that size, but my travel album is 12 x 12. So what do you do? Quite simply, you resize or you incorporate.

And here's how I did it. First off, I start with my layout. I loosely based my two-page layout on a sketch by Becky Higgins. If you have her Best of Becky Higgins Sketches for Scrapbooking book, I used the sketch on page 172. See how the template formed the basis for the right-hand page? All I needed were some embellishments and *voila* a finished page. The beauty of sketches and templates is that you use them as guidelines. So what you end up with may not look anything like the sketch or template that inspired your layout. Isn't scrapbooking great?! Such flexibility!

Hawaii Layouts

Whoohoo! I finally have something to show for myself after several long weeks of nothing. In honor of National Scrapbooking Day, I spent Saturday afternoon in the craft room (instead of cleaning house...LOL). Here's a sampling of what I got done. All of these layouts are based on sketches by Becky Higgins - her formulas are so easy to adapt & use!

You may remember this layout from a previous post. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I was disappointed with some empty space on the left page. I couldn't think of anything to put to fill the void. I tried the flower, but it just didn't do it for me. Then I got my new Luxe prize pack & saw the stamps - perfect! The flower on the right page is not permanent; I can't decide if I like it or not. It's growing on me. (No pun intended)

All paper: TLC Runway - Tressie Circles

Make-n-Take

Had a terrific time stampin' with my mom's group last night. We spent several hours together. I did the make-n-take the SU demonstrator had for us. I haven't added the photo yet. I know which one I want to put on this layout, but I can't put my hands on it at the moment. I finished several other layouts I'd had in-progress. So all in all, it was a productive night.

Paper: berry bliss
Stamps: Little Pieces, Always

Layouts 07/17/07

I've now completed all of the NYC layouts I had "in progress." I still have several to do, but I haven't wrapped my head around how I'm going to do them just yet. I'll follow up tomorrow with product lists for these two--I'm tired!

Tour (still tweaking)
I'm not entirely happy with this layout. I thought the triangular journaling was a good idea...until I put it on the page. So I haven't decided if it will stay or go. If I can balance it, maybe it will look right.

Empire State Building
I'm really happy with this layout. The only thing I might have changed was the color of my rub-ons on the right-hand page, but I balanced the black letters with the journaling & thin ribbon. I think it works alright.

Mom's Digital Layout

Thought I would share my mom's most recent digital layout of her Father's Day lunch with grampa. One day I'll sit down long enough to actually convert to digital scrapping! I believe she used a pre-made layout from TLC.

Project 06/22/07

My co-worker hired me to compile a family recipe book. She's giving it to her daughter as a graduation gift (her daughter just graduated college & is headed out on her own). My co-worker supplied everything; I simply put it together.

Scrapbook Layouts 06/15/07

Here are some layouts from our wedding album. Sorry, no fancy product lists on these b/c I did these ages ago & can't remember.

How My Scrapbooking Began

Here are a few examples of how my scrapbooking addiction got started. It's amazing to look back and see how far my layouts have come. My layouts have come a long way from the beginning. As much as I would love to go back and start over, who has time for that?! And you can see how your style grows and changes over time. The important thing is that I'm getting my memories scrapped!
